about

I was inspired to write this tune in 1998 after seeing Ken Burn's documentary on the Dustbowl and the Great Depression of the 1930's. It's one of the first songs I ever wrote, and I still play it today.

lyrics

Boomtown (Music & words by Mike Cobb 1998)

Boomtown gone bust

All the crops gone to dust

Way on back in 1933

How’m I gonna feed the family

Headed down a dusty road

Got no place left to go

When time is moving way too slow

In a boomtown gone bust, all the steel has turned to rust

In a boomtown gone bust, when banks are broke, in broke we trust

Lost my home and lost my money

Got no job but I won't work for free

Just trying to put some clothes on my back

Hey mister would you cut me some slack

Headed down a dusty road

Got no place left to go

When time is moving way too slow

In a boomtown gone bust, all the steel has turned to rust

In a boomtown gone bust, when banks are broke, in broke we trust
